Acidity is killing our gut!
As we all know we are suffering from covid pandemic.In this pandemic we all are in our home. During this period our habits are not that much okay as they are.Our daily routine are not work properly.As we are doing our work from home we are not getting enough time for exercise and our food habbits are get worse.Due to bad food habbit our gut is suffering from many disease. As we all know if we want to live long life we should be primary looking for our gut. Our gut is internal organ and it’s seceret gastric juice. In this gastric juice include hydrochloric acid, pepsin and bile salts.
There are many factors that are increasing the amount of gastric juice like Dietary products, life style, certain medication.
First we will discuss about Dietary products-
1. As we all know some people having habbit of morning tea. Tea is common factor that leads to acidity. Empty stomach if you take tea that is very harmful to your gut. Not only the tea but also coffee because it is contain caffeine. It caused gastric juice reflux.
2. In our fast life style we want everything fast and instant. And food is comes first in that list. We continues eat junk food or stored food. We all know that junk food is made up of harmful stuff like saues,all purpose oils, flours etc. It can easily harm our gut. It can also caused acid reflux. Remember which one can easily made it can easily harm.
3. Chocolates are very common thing in our life. We used to eat chocolate in daily basis but eating more chocolate can a surge to serotonin and altimatly it increases the acid juice and along with that caffeine are also included in that so it can easily triggered acid reflux.
4. Smoking is just not injurious to lungs but also caused damage to other organs too. Nicotine from tobacco can relax the valves of food pipe. It can easily break down the chemicals in stomach and it caused reflux into mouth. If we not prevented then it damage our body very worsely. firstly we should prevent smoking.
5. There are around 650 million people are suffering from obesity. Obesity is common cause for obesity because our weight increase pressure on our abdomen. The extra fat around the belly squeeze the stomach, so by that more fluid travels upward into mouth.
6. Alcohol stimulate the stomach to increase the amount of gastric juices and if it increase it can caused acid reflux.
7. In our rapid life style our eating food habit is worse like our timing of taking food. We know that our work load is on the top of the head but in that situation we forgot to eat and after that we eat at midnight or in early morning. But is should be our priority to look for it. As per my opinion we should take breakfast in the morning and there is gape for 4 to 5 hours between breakfast and lunch. More than gape of 6 to 7 hours can also caused acidity. It decrease our appetite. And at night we should take dinner around 8 to 10. It is perfect timing for eating food.
8. Almost people are used to eat spicy food like garlic,chili, onion, tomatoes etc. But they alk are contain chemical which called as capsaicin. Which slow the rate of digestion. It means food will sit in the stomach for long time and by that caused increase acid and acid reflux.
9. Some people have bad habbit of drinking bevarages on daily basis but thay don’t know that bevarages are made up of carbonated water which contains air bubbles. They are puts the pressure on stomach to expand and acid contents goes back to the food pipe.
10. There are certain medication which can cause acid reflux like mostly cardiac related medicines. That’s why doctor suggest antaacids for those people.
What are the sign and symptoms of acidity?
1. The most common sign which is seen in every one who has long term problem with acidity is Heart burn- it is burning pain or discomfort that may move from stomach to abdomen or chest , even in throat.
Regurgitation – it means a sour or bitter taste acid backing up into throat or mouth.
Other symptoms are- Bloating( build up of gas in the stomach and intestine). 2. Bloody stool or black stool. 3. Bloody vomiting. 4. Burping ( gas comes out of the stomach). 5. Difficulty in swallowing. 6. Hiccups. 7. Nausea( feeling of vomiting). 8. Weight loss for no reason. 9. Chronic sore throat. This all are the symptoms seen in acidity.
How doctor can diagnosed acidity?
1.Bariun swallow test– It is non-invasive procedure( no cut in this type of procedure). In this procedure doctor gave Barium liquid to patient. It is used for diagnosed upper GI system means esophagus ,stomach and first part of small intestine. After swallow the liquid doctor take X – rays of upper GI system. If ther is ulcers or narrowing of esophagus (food pipe) occure then easily doctor can identify that.
2. Esophagogastroduodenoscopy– It is very complicated bword but if we divide it we can easily understand. So, have look first scopy it means visualization, second there are some upper parts of GI system like esophagus, stomach, duodenum ( upper parts of small intestine). So all over it means visualization of upper parts of GI system with scope.
3. Esophageal manometry– it is test that used to measure the function of lower esophageal valve and muscles of esophagus.
4. PH MONITORING– ph helping us to checking acid level in stomach or esophagus.
5. BIOPSY– it is invasive procedure ( required cut on skin and tissue) in that doctor take abnormal tissue or cell for microscopic investigation means checking under microscope to check there is any infection is present or not.
WHAT ARE THE MEDICATION WHICH CAN HELP IN REDUCE THE ACIDITY??
1.ANTAACIDS- GELUSIL, MAALOX. 2. PROTON PUMP INHIBITOR- Pantaprazole, rebiprazole, oneprazole. 3. ACID SUPPRESSANTS – Renitidine, Nizatidine. Almost all medicines are available at over counter means it can easily available without doctor’s prescription.
